Grubbenvorst – Bas and Ton van Leeuwen of Westburg BV are proud to announce that the new YU&ME tomatoes will be available at Jan Linders Supermarkets from Monday 4 April. A holistic concept has been created through cooperation between the growers supported by ZON and BASF's vegetables seeds business.
The tomatoes are grown and packaged by Westburg BV in Grubbenvorst and sold by ZON. Characteristic is the crispy bite, sweet taste, the smaller size and weight than regular snack and snack tomatoes. That makes it a perfect bite size tomato.Innovation trajectory
"In this unique collaboration, the approach of an innovation process set up by ZON has been applied, of which the YU&ME snack tomato is the first delivered product," says Jenny Peters, product marketer at ZON. "The elaboration and visualization by Dries Habraken of PIT food concepts and Studio Laura Voet, packaging design, make YU&ME a sustainable and future-proof product", adds Henri van Hassel, Consumer & customer manager vegetable seeds at BASF. YU&ME really developed as a collective. Dries Habraken formed the product and brand strategy and developed the concept. Laura Voet formed the total branding and packaging design.
Snack tomato
The snack tomato brand YU&ME is based on a tomato variety developed by BASF's vegetable seeds business. Thanks to the extendable slide in the packaging, you can proudly place it on the serving platter. In addition, they are easy to take with you as a snack to school or work. You can really enjoy yourself with YU&ME.
Packaging
'The packaging is perfectly fits, the colors and sunbeams are central to how the tomatoes grow in the greenhouses in Grubbenvorst. In addition, our story, the sustainable cultivation method and choice of packaging material. ’ says Bas van Leeuwen, Westburg BV. The packaging is unique on the shelf due to the use of colour.
Target audience
YU&ME stands for You & Me, sharing special moments and making beautiful memories. Treat yourself but also enjoy with others! In a time full of challenges, there is nothing more powerful than enjoying together. YU&ME is a concept developed for a broad younger target group, including millennials and families with children.
Sustainability
Sustainability is an important starting point for the YU&ME tomatoes. For example, the packaging consists only of cardboard, which makes it easily recyclable. The bubble tomatoes are grown in a sustainable PlanetProof manner at Westburg BV using residual heat and the use of only biological crop protection.
Availability
YU&ME is exclusively available at Jan Linders Supermarkets from Monday 4 April (start week 14). The snack tomatoes are packed per 170 grams.
