Speed of the auction process

In our previous newsletter, we mentioned that the speed of the auction process was one of the focus areas from the customer satisfaction survey.

The Timed Auction Team is working to identify where improvements can be made.

  • As from 10 June 2024, there will no longer be a wait between the auction blocks in the auction process, as we will be using a fixed auction order (with no fixed auction times for specific blocks).
  • Some adjustments will need to be made to the auction system. ZON is in talks with the supplier of the timed system to make improvements to this.

Additionally, we have identified several parts of the auction process where the speed can be improved, but we do require your cooperation to achieve this:

  • If you purchase produce from the ‘Presale’ during the auction process, please always provide the auctioneer with the number of the desired packaging type, instead of a description.
  • It often takes some time for timed auction customers to inform the auctioneer of the desired quantity and corresponding sub-number(s) after making a bid. Therefore, please inform the auctioneer of this information immediately as soon as you have made the bid. The Timed Auction Team will be contacting the relevant timed auction customers in person in the coming period to make improvements in this area.

If you have any questions about the above, or suggestions for further improving the speed of the auction process, please contact the Timed Auction Team:

The import season at ZON has started

Information about the latest developments regarding the supply of imported produce for the timed auction sales.

Supply of Spanish produce
In recent weeks, the supply of Spanish produce for timed auctions has resumed, such as the supply of courgettes, aubergines and celery. As you may have seen in newspapers and on the news, southern Spain experienced severe weather last week, particularly affecting the El Ejido region. This region primarily grows sweet peppers and aubergines, and is home to several of ZON’s suppliers.
Today, we started to receive shipments of sweet peppers and Palermo peppers. However, volumes are currently very limited due to the ongoing situation in Spain.

In the second half of this week, we anticipate the arrival of iceberg lettuce and broccoli from Murcia. In the coming weeks, we expect the supplies to increase, depending on the supply of Dutch produce, but this is also heavily reliant on the availability of Spanish produce.
We will keep you informed about new developments in the supply chain through the newsletter in the Webclock.

Focus areas
For green Spanish sweet peppers, ZON will maintain a 20% tolerance for blemishes in the upcoming season. Additionally, in the coming season, Spanish produce will again be auctioned in the respective produce blocks following the auction of Dutch produce.

Quality
The auctioning of high-quality fresh produce directly from cooperatives and growers in Spain is very important to ZON. In the upcoming season, inspections in Almeria will once again be conducted by an on-site inspector in collaboration with ZON’s inspectors in Venlo. This approach ensures that the quality of the produce is upheld to the highest possible standards.

Supply of other imported produce
In November, we will resume the timed auction sale of vine tomatoes from Turkey. We will notify you in advance about the start of the supply of these vine tomatoes through the newsletter in Webclock.

Over the past few weeks, we have received shipments of Moroccan runner beans, green beans, spring onions and cherry tomatoes for timed auction sales. Later this week, the supply will start of Moroccan round and beef tomatoes. The plan is to then expand the range of Moroccan produce further still. We will keep you informed on new developments through the newsletter in Webclock.

Storage per packaging unit
You will find a list of the current packaging unit storage options on the ZON buyer portal at www.z-online.nl under “Standard storage options per packaging unit”.
